Assisted Living
Facilities
Assisted living facilities offer a community in which your
elderly loved one will live with other seniors. This form of senior care
provides basic services, including community events, assistance with activities
of daily living, and resident supervision.
While the official definition of assisted living facilities
varies from one state to the next, these organizations serve as a halfway point
between independent living and the round the clock care provided in a nursing
home. While these facilities do offer a strong community and regular
supervision, they do not allow seniors to lead the independent lifestyles that
many of them enjoy.
Home Care Services
Home care is a form of senior care that allows a certified
elder care provider to offer assistance to your elderly loved one in the
comfort of their own home. These services also assist with activities of daily
living; however, instead of forcing your loved one to move away from their home
and into an unfamiliar community, they allow them to continue aging in place.
Home care services enable seniors to retain their independent
lifestyles without having to sacrifice their safety. Senior care professionals
provide daily assistance with necessary tasks as well as companionship and, in
some cases, transportation. As such, your elderly loved one can benefit from
the services of a senior care professional without having to completely uproot
their lives.
Choosing the senior care services that your loved one needs
may seem like a difficult task; however, with the right information, you can
make a decision in which your family can be confident. With the previous facts
and a bit more targeted research on your part, you can choose a local service
that best sees to the senior care needs of your elderly loved one.
Sometimes this decision can be a difficult one, I know, I've had to deal with this issue for my grandfather. In the end we settled on a great place for assisted living in Ohio. I'll be sending my grandfather here soon.

Assisted living is an excellent choice for seniors who want to live as independently as possible, but need assistance with support services. These have a higher ratio of caregivers than a nursing home in a safe home-like environment, but encourage as much individual independence as capable. Thanks a lot.

Great info. We've been looking into senior in-home care in Elmhurst, IL for my granddad. He doesn't want to move out of his house, but he still needs someone to keep an eye on him.

I agree that it allows them to keep their independent lifestyle while also staying safe. That's why I really think they are the best way to go. You are able to know that your loved one is safe, while also making sure they still get to use their independence. http://www.selfcareassist.com.au/our-services
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know the differences between assisted living and home care that you have pointed out here. I think that my Grandparents would probably prefer the home care services, since you said that it enables them to maintain their independent life style. It would be great for them to be able to still do all the things that they're used to.
